A stately, H-shaped building that once housed the Kansas City commodities and grain exchanges is now the home of Board of Trade Lofts. This building consists of fourteen floors of loft apartments and commercial spaces that have been meticulously restored to their original elegance featuring decorative terrazzo floors, polished Missouri limestone walls and magnificent facades depicting the various commodities once brokered on the fourteenth floor trading hall – now home to some of the City’s most distinctive penthouses. Board of Trade Lofts offers a range of studios, one and two bedroom loft apartments with prices starting at $899 for studios, $925 for one bedrooms and $1,199 for two bedrooms. Upscale amenities include a social lounge, indoor putting green, theater room, private event space, resident storage and a modern fitness center with a wide selection of cardio and strength training equipment, steam spa, tanning bed, hot tub and an indoor swimming pool. Security is comprehensive and is supported by a courtesy patrol service, keyless entry systems, digital telephone access for guests and attached garage parking. On-site management, maintenance, package concierge and dry cleaning services are merely a few of the countless other conveniences offered at Board of Trade Lofts.

Board of Trade lofts has excellent walk-ability with numerous neighborhood amenities such as restaurants, bars and coffee shops just a short walk away while popular destinations such as the Power & Light District, Crossroads Art District, the T-Mobile Center, Crown Center and the River Market are easily accessible via the Streetcar. The River Market features both locally-grown fruits and vegetables and more exotic fares such as Ethiopian, Vietnamese and Brazilian cuisines. Each month the Crossroads Arts District neighborhood hosts a local street art event called First Friday. Connectivity to other areas of Metropolitan Kansas City is swift using Broadway to access major thoroughfares such as I-70 and I-35 and the north and southbound Streetcar stations can be found on Main Street just one block east. The beautiful Kansas City Library is visible to the north and its famous “Community Bookshelf” mural adorning the Library’s parking garage is a popular spot for KC selfies.

The Kansas City Board of Trade was first assembled in 1869. It quickly outgrew its original location in the West Bottoms and then the River Market and in 1888 moved to a magnificent building at 8th and Wyandotte designed by renowned architects Burnham and Root. By the roaring twenties the KC Board of Trade had once again outgrown these iconic digs and in 1925 moved to 10th and Wyandotte. A new landmark building had been recently constructed at this location by Kansas City entrepreneur and real estate investor, Joseph A. Bruening. Their new home was a 14-story, highly embellished commercial building, characterized by colossal pilasters, triglyphs and medallions. During the time of its construction, it was hailed as “a monument to the phenomenal growth of the Southwest as the world’s greatest grain empire”, and became the largest grain exchange in the world. The Board of Trade ultimately moved to the corner of 48th and Main streets in the Plaza District in 1966.
